The wind of adventure has been blowing hard in my ears these last few weeks !
I had the chance to join the crew of the Ramblin' Rose for a little Vanuatu trip and to set sail on a sailboat for the first time (my trips having been more by land than by sea until then...)
And what a wind in the sails !
A week of Melanesian Arts festival in Port-Vila, Vanuatu smiles and sweetness, island
vibes, dance and music, strength of the earth and of the culture. Holiday…
And then, the open sea…
An intense sailing experience, and a beautiful baptism of the high seas!
Now I know…
I know the time that expands, the days and nights that mix and dilute in an indefinite space of time, continually humid and punctuated by the wind. I know the creaking of the hull and the flapping of the sails, the waves that pass over the deck and the foam whispering, the monotony of the landscape, the entire energy of the body focused on a single goal : to remain stable in this noisy rolling that confuses the mind and shakes everything around you, the fatigue and loneliness in the ordeal.
I thought seasickness was only made up of nausea, and while I was lucky enough to be little sick at this level despite my initial fears, I discovered all its subtle variations... torpor and foggy mind, half-sleeps filled with delirious dreams like when a fever takes us, the total inability to move, the difficulty of lining up two thoughts and three words... 2 days and 2 nights, time to accustom to life at sea... The all crossing lasted for 4 days and 3 nights.
But now I know…
I also know the expanse of blue as far as the eye can see, the body that adapts and can finally embrace the rolling of the boat, the childlike joy of seeing dolphins surfing along the hull, the preciousness of a gesture or a kind word, the particular intimacy that is woven between beings in this small space of humanity lost in the elements, the mind that wanders and finally settle, the pleasure of finally eating again, the confident rest lulled by the waves despite the swirls, the happiness of returning to the green, the beauty of the coasts seen from the open sea, the satisfaction of having pushed a little further the limits of what I thought I was capable of…
And this moment of magic, an unexpected gift during a change of sails... Isis who appears on the genoa as it unfolds... Isis who accompanies me, always...
It was so unexpected that I still can't believe it!
(the video was shot when we were back and safe in the lagoon waters, no way I could hold the camera under the conditions of the open sea !)
A small collection of earrings was born from these daydreams of sailing just before my embarkation, it's called SOME WIND IN THE SAILS...
It is dedicated to all those who feel the winds of change blowing in their ears.
To those who dream of adventure(s), of breathing wider, of seeing beyond the horizon 😉
The earrings of this collection are available in their all silver version, or in a silver/enamel version.
